Over the past month an ‘Arizona’s Job Growth Bill’ has been circulating around the internet and the State. As written, the bill focuses on tax breaks for large corporations, offers little assistance to the small businesses in Arizona, and has a limited short term impact on creating jobs. While creating a welcoming environment for all businesses should be a concern for every State Legislature, why not start with a jobs bill that has immediate impact and offers a return on taxpayer’s money? For the past several years, Arizona Legislators and the Governor’s office have swept Highway User Revenue Funds (HURF) to fill general budget shortfalls. The HURF is generated from taxes on each gallon of gas we purchase; monies that are supposed to be earmarked for infrastructure projects. With over 10 million people expected in Arizona by 2020, we cannot afford to short change the infrastructure of Arizona. Infrastructure that plays a critical role in moving people and goods. Infrastructure that can give Arizona an advantage in the southwest. The projects that could be funded are varied, local and statewide, and will have an immediate impact on job creation, from planners and engineers who create/design the projects, to contractors who build the projects, and even suppliers who deliver/manufacture the materials. Jobs would not only be saved and created, but gas tax revenue would be spent where it is supposed to be allocated. Arizonans would be given a hard return on our investment. An investment that Arizona will need as we enter our next 100 years of Statehood.

LD 11 Senate Candidates Davis and Driggs Battle Over Who Is Less of an Insider…

Typical Politics on Display

Phoenix, Arizona – GOP Candidates for Arizona Legislative District 11’s Senate Race Rich Davis and Adam Driggs continued a war of words today on who is less of an insider. Adam Driggs attacked Rich Davis on his time spent in Washington DC, while Rich Davis noted that much of Adam Driggs’ campaign money has flowed from Arizona PAC’s.

“It is unfortunate that both of these insiders continue to focus on who is less of an insider, rather than addressing the issues that LD 11 residents, families, and small business owners are facing. I am disappointed and concerned that I am the only Candidate in the LD 11 Senate Race that is here to represent the mainstream of our District. “ said Andrew Smigielski.

The ongoing attacks between Davis and Driggs are a regrettable display of ‘Politics as Usual’ and something that voters across Arizona and America have made clear that they are tired of at all levels of government.

Dear Friends,

Thank you for your interest in my candidacy for Arizona Senate in District 11. I am proud to be called an Arizonan and see an opportunity for our State to become a leader in the southwest and the United States. Our natural resources, colorful history, diverse population, and reasonable cost of living make Arizona a great destination for new businesses and the limitless opportunities that follow. The central Phoenix revitalization efforts led by small business owners, homeowners, and artists in the area need to be supported at the state level. In order to accomplish this, the State must work as an ally to cities and neighborhoods to continue and assist the work that has been started. One day we will not be known just for our beautiful national monuments, travel and leisure activities, but as an exciting, cutting edge, safe, and diverse mix of communities and environments, offering an excellent opportunity to raise a healthy family, grow a business, or begin a new rewarding career. I am proud of the state we all choose to live in and I feel we can only get better.

During the next several months we will be walking through the neighborhoods that make up District 11. The future of Arizona is in our hands. Please share your ideas, suggestions and concerns with me! Call (602.492.7644) or email me at andrew@andrewforaz.com with your thoughts. I also ask for your vote on or before August 24, 2010.

Thank you,

Andrew Smigielski, PE
